History
The Jack Russell Terrier is a small terrier that was originally bred in England in the 1800s. The breed was named after the Rev. John Russell, who was an avid hunter and developed the breed for hunting foxes. The Jack Russell Terrier is a descendant of the Fox Terrier and was originally used as a working dog on farms and as a hunting dog. The breed nearly became extinct during World War II, but was saved by American servicemen who brought them back to the United States. The Jack Russell Terrier became popular in America in the 1950s and 1960s, and has been used as a working dog, companion dog, and show dog. The breed is recognized by the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club.
