History

The breed nearly became extinct during World War II, but was saved by American servicemen who brought them back to the United States. The Jack Russell Terrier became popular in America in the 1950s and 1960s, and has been used as a working dog, companion dog, and show dog. The breed is recognized by the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club.
