History

The King Shepherd is a large, powerful dog that was originally bred in Germany. The breed is a mix of several different types of shepherd dogs, including the German Shepherd, the Anatolian Shepherd, and the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. The King Shepherd was created in an effort to create a dog that would be more resistant to disease and have a longer lifespan than the German Shepherd. However, the breed quickly became unpopular due to its aggressive nature and high maintenance requirements. In the early 2000s, there were only a handful of King Shepherds remaining in Germany. However, the breed has since experienced a resurgence in popularity and is now recognized as a separate breed by several kennel clubs.

The King Shepherd is a relatively new breed of dog, with its origins dating back to only the early 1990s. The breed was created in Germany by breeder Karl-Friedrich Klindworth, who wanted to create a dog that was more resistant to disease and had a longer lifespan than the German Shepherd. To do this, Klindworth mixed together several different types of shepherd dogs, including the German Shepherd, the Anatolian Shepherd, and the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. While the resulting dog was indeed more resistant to disease and had a longer lifespan than the German Shepherd, it was also much more aggressive and high-maintenance than its predecessor. As a result, the King Shepherd quickly fell out of favor with most people and became close to extinction.

In the early 2000s, there were only a handful of King Shepherds remaining in Germany. However, thanks to dedicated breeders like Jutta Ziegler, who founded the first King Shepherd breeding kennel in 2002, the breed has experienced a resurgence in popularity over the past few years. Today, there are hundreds of King Shepherds spread across Europe and North America. The breed is recognized as a separate breed by several kennel clubs around the world, including the American Kennel Club (AKC) and Canadian Kennel Club (CKC).
