History
The Komondor is a large, white, sheep-herding dog breed originally from Hungary. The Komondor was brought to Hungary by the Cumans, a Turkic people who settled in Hungary in the 12th century. The Komondor is thought to be descended from the Tibetan Mastiff and the Kuvasz, two other large, white sheep-herding dog breeds. The Komondor is sometimes called the Hungarian Sheepdog or the Hungarian Puli.
The Komondor breed nearly became extinct during World War II. During the war, many of the dogs were killed by soldiers who mistook them for sheep. After the war, only a few hundred Komondors remained in Hungary. However, the breed was saved by dedicated breeders who worked to rebuild the population.
Today, the Komondor is still used as a sheep-herding dog in Hungary and other parts of Europe. They are also becoming increasingly popular as companion animals in North America and other parts of the world. The Ancestry of the Komondor dog is very interesting and unique
