History

The Miniature Shar Pei is a small breed of dog that was once on the brink of extinction. The breed originated in China, where they were used for hunting and as guard dogs. They were also used in dog fighting, which led to their reputation as being aggressive. However, they are actually very loyal and loving dogs.

The Miniature Shar Pei almost became extinct in the 1970s due to the Chinese Communist Revolution. Many of the dogs were killed or sold to other countries. However, a few breeders in Hong Kong managed to keep the breed alive. In 1979, the first Miniature Shar Pei was imported to the United States.

The Miniature Shar Pei became popular in the 1980s due to their unique appearance. They have a wrinkled face and a blue-black tongue. They are also one of the few breeds that have webbed feet, which makes them excellent swimmers.

The ancestry of the Miniature Shar Pei is unknown. However, it is believed that they are related to the Chow Chow and Tibetan Mastiff. The Miniature Shar Pei was recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1992.
